A Short History of the Reading Room
by Daniel

One night at around two o'clock in the morning, I was awakened by a soft feminine voice. This voice came from behind me as I lay slumbering in my bed. I was half asleep, therefore it did not occur to me that I was alone.

The voice spoke to me, soothing me and making me feel comfortable. I spoke back to it, agreeing to what it was saying without knowing what I was hearing. I remember feeling at peace, like this voice was a long lost friend or lover.

It finally occurred to me that I was alone, and that this voice was disembodied. I suddenly became very awake and tried to spin around and see the source of the voice. As I turned, a force stopped me half way. My eyes were closed and I felt a pressure push down on my chest. I attempted to open my eyes and see the thing that was on top of me, but I had very little control against the struggle.

I was able to force my eyelids open enough to see the shadow of a person hovering over me. It was blocking the early morning light shining in from the window over my bed. I continued to struggle until finally giving up physically. My body relaxed and I focused my mind on willing the force away.

Just then, my eyes sprung open and I let out a strong breath, like I was emerging from water. As expected, my room was empty and the early morning light continued to shine in from the window.
