Seven Spirits
Hamilton, Ontario
August 1983
by
Lillian Duvall

My father had just passed away that day and that same night after we had gone to bed I woke up to an outragious noise. I ran to my sons room to find that the fan blade had broken in half and was walking across the room. This might not sound like much but it had to wiggle out from between two dressers to walk, and also that same night my brother went home and all the lights in his appartment kept going on and off all evening until he came back to my house. Later that same evening I lit some incense that I don't normally do and the ashes from in fell in a twirl down the side of the incense and literally turned and followed me around in the room. The incense was actually turning around. I walked all around in the room and it continued to follow me. My uncle said that my father was trying to comunicate with me. I believed in spirits but my brother did not until I performed a ceremony that invites the spirits to my home for a dinner. I had to light two candles at the door to invite the spirits is and leave the door open so that they could leave. My brother was sitting by lthe door and watched the candle flame blow in seven times as seven spirits arrived. After the dinner was over he said he watched the flame blow out the doorway seven times as the spirits even though the wind was blowing in. He says he believes now but he's scared of spirits so now when I have my ceremonies he doesn't come.
