Dundas District

Dundas, ON

Christmas eve, Christmas Day and boxing day of 2000 were all scheduled night shifts for me as an on-duty School board security's mobile patrol officer. I was fairly new to the company,
and hadn't heard what I would later hear of several experiences of the same type by my fellow officers.

I was to do patrols of the schools in our area as they were closed for the holidays, and got the creeps from this particular school, Dundas District. This was just from driving around the perimeter of the school to look for signs of entry or damage.

Now, I am prone to getting "feelings" and little intuitions, but thought I was being stupid, and thought nothing of it. The next night, which was Christmas eve, I got an alarm at the school, motion detectors to the hallway and office. This involves walking the perimeter of the school for signs of entry, and then entering the school through the access door, which is at the back of the school off the parking lot/playground. Then to disarm the alarm, you head down a half flight of stairs and head left to the boiler room, next to the Caretakers office. As I passed the caretaker's office, the door was closed, and no signs of activity were noted.

I am a very experienced officer, and am not afraid to go into dark places, but I was very unnerved for some reason. I disarmed the alarm, and proceeded to head upstaris to the location of the motion detectors that were tripped. After searching the area, I could find no signs of any disturbance, and after writing the report, went back down to rearm the system.

As I passed the caretaker's office, the door bumped open and the radio came on blaring. I jumped, but found no one inside. As I continued to the boiler room, I noticed a heavy self-closing fire door was hanging open, directly across from the alarm room, and went to take a look. I went about half way down, and saw this was a basement gym area, and shone my flashlight around the area from where I was on the stairs. At first I saw nothing, but suddenly noticed an old india rubber ball bouncing by itself in the corner. The hair on my arms and neck stood up, and I got out of there very fast. I threw my report in the alarm room, re-armed the alarm in record time, and ran out of the school.

I was to find out the next day that between the time I entered and the time I re-armed the system was reportedly the time the train crash had happened years before, and I also found out the part about the basement gym being used as a makeshift morgue. After I left, I stopped at a nearby Tim Horton's for a coffee ( I needed one!!!) and ran in to a Police officer, who I talked with for a while, and he had stories of fellow officers with similar experiences from when the police were doing the school's alarm response - seeing a little girl in the basement, and holding out a hand to her, and then she disappeared. Doors opening for them as if someone was being polite, all kinds of things!

There are several schools in this area we have had this kind of experience in, most notably Stinson school. Yuck- I have the shivers just re-telling this creepy story.
