Deschene Avenue
West Mountain, Hamilton, Ontario
by
Glenn

Back in about 1977 I lived with my parents in a house on Deschene Ave on the west mountain. Our house was one of the first houses in that area. It was originally moved there from somewhere else which I don't know where. The previous owner was a minister which I don't know if that has any bearing on what happened or not. Anyhow one day, and I do mean daytime with the sun shining brightly outside. The basement however being fairly dim. I went downstairs to do some laundry. I had an armfull, and as I got to the bottom of the stairs I turned and saw what looked to be a yound girl of about 5 years old sitting in a corner of the room holding a teddy bear. I've been startled by things before, however it was like the room temperature just dropped by 50 degrees, and the hairs on my body stand on end like a cat when they get riled. I'm a fairly big guy and not afraid of a little girl but this was something more than just a little girl. I dropped the laundry and just ran upstairs. After about 15 minutes of just sitting there talking to myself saying this couldn't have really happened I gathered some bravery to go down and really see if there was in fact something down there. There was nothing. What I saw the first time had no color to it. It wasn't white though. It is too hard to describe what it looked like, but it was a little girl that I saw. That I know. She didn't say anything, and there was no movement from her. It was only for a few split seconds that I saw her since I ran as fast as my legs could carry me up those stairs. I didn't want to tell my parents about it since they might think that I was nuts, but since that day I do believe in ghosts. I would really like to see another one. I just hope that I can be a bit braver the next time it happens and stay to watch or even comunicate.
